What happened to heavyweight boxing

Lennox Louis retired from boxing and then nothing.

Here is the current list of the top ten Heavyweight boxers:

1.
Wladimir Klitschko Next: TBA vs. Alexander Povetkin
2. Samuel Peter Next: Oct. 11 vs. Vitali Klitschko
3. Ruslan Chagaev
4. Nicolay Valuev
5. Vitali Klitschko Next: Oct. 11 vs. Samuel Peter
6. Alexander Povetkin Next: TBA vs. Wladimir Klitschko
7. Oleg Maskaev
8. Sultan Ibragimov
9. John Ruiz
10. Chris Arreola

So which one of those fighters are you excited about? Me either, I mean who are these fighters and which one can pull down the pay-per-view dollars like a Mike Tyson or
Evander Holyfield., whom happens to still be ranked 18th. Which I think says more about the state of Heavyweight boxing then anything else. I mean how old is that guy and look at his last fights:

2007

Mar. 17 -- Vinny Maddalone, Corpus Christi, TX, TKO 3 *RECAP*
June 30 -- Lou Savarese, El Paso, TX, W 10 *RECAP*
Oct. 13 -- Sultan Ibragimov, Moscow, Russia, L 12 *RECAP*
(For WBO Heavyweight Title)

Who are those fighters he fought against, no one knows either. So the 18th ranked boxer is at the prime time age of 46 ( next month ). I will say that Wladimir Klitschko has some impressive numbers and is the only one to watch, but even being the top ranked boxer with an impressive record (51 Wins, 3 Loss, 45 Knockouts) there is nothing exciting about him that makes people want to watch unless you are a die hard boxing fan. But even those die hards would not pay $49.99 for a pay-per-view match of one of his fights.

So until there is another Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Evander type of boxer, the sport will continue to not be impressive enough to mention again for this blogger. Don King must be selling his flag pins and watches to keep his bills paid. His Boxing game even bombed when he tried to venture out. Maybe he can set his hair on fire while singing the National Anthem during the next match at least then I would be tempted to pay $49.99 for a boxing match.
